Guo Jiakun criticized the joint statement for interfering in the Chinese mainland's internal affairs, accusing it of smearing China and escalating regional tensions. He emphasized that China has formally lodged representations with Japan in response.
Reiterating that the Taiwan question is a central issue for the Chinese mainland and a core national interest, Guo warned against any external interference. He highlighted that both the United States and Japan have previously committed to respecting China's position on Taiwan and urged Japan to act with greater caution given its historical involvement in Taiwan.
Guo emphasized that any participation by the Taiwan region in international organizations must adhere to the one-China principle. He asserted that Taiwan lacks the grounds or authority to join organizations reserved for sovereign states.
The spokesperson also reaffirmed China's stance on the Diaoyu Dao and its affiliated islands, asserting that they are an integral part of China's territory. He called on the United States and Japan to respect China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights, oppose any actions supporting \"Taiwan independence,\" and contribute positively to regional peace and development.
