Chinese Athletes Shine on Opening Day of 9th Asian Winter Games

Chinese athletes delivered an impressive performance on the first day of the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, securing eight gold medals across various events. Their accomplishments spanned speed skating, short track speed skating, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding, highlighting China's competitive edge in winter sports.

In the women's freeski halfpipe final in Yabuli, Li Fanghui clinched the top spot with a remarkable 95.25 points in her third run. Her teammate, Zhang Kexin, followed with 89.25 points, while South Korea's Jang Yu-jin earned bronze with 85 points.

Zhang Xiaonan dominated the women's snowboard slopestyle final, winning gold with 95.25 points—20 points ahead of the runner-up, Xiong Shirui. Japan's Ishii Himari took home the bronze.

The skating track saw Chinese athletes add four more titles to their tally. Gao Tingyu set a new Games record in the men's 100-meter speed skating event, finishing in 9.35 seconds, outperforming Kazakhstan's Yevgeniy Koshkin. Ning Zhongyang broke the men's 1,500-meter Games record with a time of 1:45.85, outpacing Japan's Kazuya Yamada and Ryota Kojima.

In the women's 1,500-meter speed skating final, Han Mei secured gold with a time of 1:57.58, while Yang Binyu and Yin Qi took silver and bronze, respectively. Lin Xiaojun won China's sole short track speed skating title in the men's 500-meter final, clocking in at 41.150 seconds and beating South Korean competitors Park Ji-won and Jang Sung-woo.

Additionally, Li Lei and Wang Qiang emerged victorious in the cross-country skiing women's and men's sprint classic finals, further contributing to China's successful debut day at the Games.
