Chinese Premier Li Qiang Strengthens Ties with Brunei’s Sultan in Beijing

Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah during the latter's state visit to China in Beijing on Thursday.

Under the strategic leadership of both leaders, China and Brunei have steadily advanced their relationship in recent years. Cooperation across various fields has significantly expanded, yielding fruitful results, Li stated.

Li emphasized that China has always regarded Brunei as an important partner in its efforts to deepen friendly relations with its neighbors. He added that China is willing to work with Brunei to implement the consensus reached by both leaders, maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and jointly promote development and prosperity, thereby bringing greater benefits to the people of both countries.

China is prepared to collaborate with Brunei to upgrade economic and trade cooperation, leveraging the renewal of the Belt and Road cooperation plan as an opportunity to accelerate the construction of key projects. Additionally, China aims to strengthen cooperation with Brunei in fields such as the information industry, scientific and technological innovation, green development, and agriculture to foster new economic drivers, Li noted.

Furthermore, China is ready to import more high-quality agricultural and aquatic products from Brunei and encourage qualified Chinese enterprises to invest in Brunei. Li expressed hope that Brunei would provide more support and facilitation for Chinese companies.

China firmly supports ASEAN in strengthening unity and strategic autonomy. Li stated China's willingness to work with all ASEAN member states, including Brunei, to promote the establishment of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
