Chinese short track speed skaters Liu Shaolin and Liu Shaoang are gearing up for a strong performance at the upcoming ninth Asian Winter Games in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. The brothers recently appeared on CGTN Sports Scene's Mike Fox segment, where they discussed their successful season and their ambitions for the Games.
In December 2024, the duo played a pivotal role in securing the men's 5,000-meter relay gold medal at the International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track Speed Skating World Tour in Beijing. On the same day, Liu Shaoang teamed up with Fan Kexin, Gong Li, and Sun Long to clinch the mixed relay title, showcasing China's dominance in the sport.
Reflecting on their season, Liu Shaolin remarked, \"It was a really good season. It started a little bit rough. It's not how we imagined it's going to be, but the home competition in Beijing, it was really nice and it was really successful.\" Meanwhile, Liu Shaoang emphasized the challenges of maintaining top performance in their sport, stating, \"I think the overall performance is pretty good. There's always ups and downs in this sport. So, if you know the sport, it's like always difficult to be on the top. So, I think that's a normal thing to have some ups and downs in the season.\"
Looking ahead to the Asian Winter Games, the brothers have clear objectives: to reach the podium and secure gold medals. Liu Shaolin noted the intensity of the upcoming season, \"We are in the middle of the season and the next competition is the Asian Games. So, it's going to be really big competition. And sometimes if we have so many competitions in one season, for example, this season we have the Asian Games, then we have the test event for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan. So, it's a really busy season, but we like to be busy. We like to work hard and fight for the gold medals.\"
