The Chinese business community has expressed strong opposition to the United States' recent decision to unilaterally impose additional tariffs on goods imported from China. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) stated on Sunday that the U.S. action seriously violates World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and threatens to disrupt normal economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
The U.S. announced an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports, citing issues such as fentanyl. In response, a spokesperson for the CCPIT declared that the Chinese business community deeply regrets and firmly opposes this move. \"Many American businesses and consumers will bear the cost of this decision, which will also undermine the stability of global industrial and supply chains,\" the spokesperson emphasized.
The CCPIT spokesperson highlighted that there are no winners in trade and tariff wars. \"The U.S.'s approach is not conducive to resolving its own issues, improving China-U.S. relations, or supporting global economic development,\" the spokesperson added.
The Chinese business community is urging the U.S. to correct its actions immediately and to meet China halfway. \"We call on the U.S. to enhance cooperation with various countries to create a sound international environment for mutual benefit and win-win results for China, the United States, and the global business community,\" the spokesperson said. \"This would inject more stability and positive energy into global economic growth.\"
