Spring Festival Celebrations Light Up China’s Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Region

Vibrant Spring Festival celebrations illuminated China's Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, and Taiwan region, bringing communities together in joy and cultural homage as they welcomed the Year of the Snake.

In Macao, the festive atmosphere came alive on Wednesday, the first day of the Lunar New Year, with leaping dragons and dancing lions captivating residents and visitors alike. A spectacular 238-meter-long golden dragon, accompanied by 18 energetic lion dancers, paraded through the historic streets. Starting from the iconic Ruins of St. Paul's, the procession wove its way through renowned landmarks including Senado Square and A-Ma Temple, infusing the city with traditional charm.

Adding to the exuberance were performers embodying the God of Wealth, the Chinese deities Fu, Lu, and Shou—symbols of luck, prosperity, and longevity—alongside representations of the zodiac snake and Macao's beloved tourism mascot, Mak Mak. The colorful display highlighted the rich heritage and festive spirit that define the Spring Festival across the region.
