Fourth-seeded Wang Xinyu of China secured her first win of the season by defeating Canada's Rebecca Marino 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 in a thrilling first-round match at the Singapore Open on Tuesday.
Marino, ranked 102nd in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), started strong, breaking Wang's first service game and taking an early 2-0 lead in the first set. Wang quickly adapted, breaking back to level the score at 3-3. Demonstrating resilience and strategic play, Wang clinched three of the next four games to take the first set 6-4.
The second set saw a fierce contest, with Marino edging out Wang 7-5 to level the match. Determined to advance, Wang intensified her service game in the deciding set.
