Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a Chinese New Year card to friends in the U.S. state of Iowa, emphasizing the shared interests between China and the United States and expressing hope for strengthened partnerships and friendships.
In his message, President Xi fondly recalled his visit to Iowa 40 years ago, noting that the warm reception he received remains fresh in his memory. \"China and the United States share extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation and can become partners and friends,\" Xi stated.
He highlighted the potential for mutual success and common prosperity, benefiting both nations and the global community. President Xi expressed his hope that the peoples of both countries will engage in more visits and exchanges, jointly writing new stories of friendship and contributing to the development of China-U.S. relations.
Earlier, a group of 58 Iowa residents, including friends Luca Berrone, Gary Dvorchak, and Sarah Lande; former U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad and his wife; former President of the World Food Prize Foundation Kenneth Quinn; as well as teachers, students, and parents involved in an exchange initiative, sent a Chinese New Year card to President Xi. They reminisced about Xi's first visit to Iowa in 1985 and extended their New Year greetings for the Year of the Snake.
The teachers, students, and parents expressed gratitude for the \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative proposed by Xi, shared their experiences from visiting China, and voiced their eagerness to return.
This exchange highlights the enduring personal connections and the potential for enhanced people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States, particularly through educational and cultural initiatives.
