Xi Jinping Sends New Year Card to Iowa Friends, Rekindling 40-Year Friendship

Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a Chinese New Year card to his longtime friends in the U.S. state of Iowa, highlighting the enduring friendship and cooperation between China and the United States.

In his message, President Xi reminisced about the warm reception he received during his visit to the beautiful state of Iowa 40 years ago, noting that the memories remain fresh in his mind. He emphasized that China and the United States share extensive common interests and have broad space for cooperation, suggesting that the two nations can become partners and friends.

\"China and the United States can achieve mutual success and common prosperity for the benefit of both countries and the world at large,\" Xi stated in his card.

President Xi expressed his hope for increased visits and exchanges between the peoples of both nations. He encouraged joint efforts to write new stories of friendship and to make new contributions to the development of China-U.S. relations.

Earlier, a group of 58 individuals from Iowa, including friends such as Luca Berrone, Gary Dvorchak, and Sarah Lande; former U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad and his wife; former President of the World Food Prize Foundation Kenneth Quinn; as well as representatives of teachers, students, and parents involved in the \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative, had jointly sent a Chinese New Year card to President Xi.

In their message, they recalled Xi's first visit to Iowa in 1985 and extended New Year greetings to him in the Year of the Snake. The group expressed gratitude for the \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative, shared their experiences of visiting China, and conveyed their eagerness to visit again.

The exchange of New Year greetings underscores the importance of people-to-people connections in fostering understanding and cooperation between nations. As China and the United States navigate the complexities of their relationship, such friendships serve as a reminder of the shared values and mutual benefits that can arise from open dialogue and cultural exchange.
