Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday praised the \"solid progress\" China has made in advancing modernization over the past year, despite facing \"complex and challenging\" situations. Speaking at a high-level reception held by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council to welcome the upcoming Year of the Snake, Xi highlighted the nation's resilience and determination.
\"In the Year of the Dragon, we demonstrated vitality and a can-do spirit. We endured storms and saw the rainbow,\" Xi said. He emphasized that, confronted with difficulties, China responded with composure and implemented comprehensive measures, overcoming obstacles and forging ahead with determination.
The reception, attended by over 2,000 people, was held to usher in the Year of the Snake, which begins on January 29. Xi extended Spring Festival greetings to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese.
Highlighting the nation's economic achievements, Xi noted that China effectively implemented existing policies and proactively introduced a package of incremental policies over the past year. \"These efforts helped promote the recovery of the economy,\" he said.
He also underscored remarkable progress in technological and industrial innovation, mentioning that new high-quality productive forces are advancing steadily. \"China's employment and consumer prices remained stable,\" Xi added, pointing to signs of sustained economic stability.
