Xi Jinping Hails China's Solid Progress Despite Challenges in Year of the Dragon

At a high-level reception in Beijing on Monday, President Xi Jinping lauded China's substantial progress in advancing Chinese modernization over the past year, despite facing "complex and challenging" situations. The event, held by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council, marked the approach of the Chinese New Year.

"In the Year of the Dragon, we demonstrated vitality and a can-do spirit. We endured storms and saw the rainbow," said Xi, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission. He emphasized China's resilience and determination in overcoming difficulties and forging ahead on its developmental path.

Reflecting on the past 12 months, Xi acknowledged the myriad challenges the nation encountered. "Faced with complex and challenging situations, China responded with composure and implemented a range of comprehensive measures," he stated. "We overcame difficulties and forged ahead with determination."

The reception, attended by over 2,000 people, was held to usher in the Year of the Snake, beginning on January 29. During the event, Xi extended Spring Festival greetings to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, as well as compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan region, and overseas Chinese communities.

Highlighting economic achievements, Xi noted that over the past year, China effectively implemented existing policies and proactively introduced a package of incremental measures, which helped promote the recovery of the economy. "We achieved remarkable progress in technological and industrial innovation, with new quality productive forces forging ahead steadily," he said. "China's employment and consumer prices also remained stable."

Xi's remarks underscored the nation's commitment to pursuing high-quality development and advancing Chinese modernization. As the country prepares to enter the Year of the Snake, he called for unity and continued effort to build on the achievements of the past year.
