Xi Jinping Hails China’s Progress Amid Challenges in Year of the Dragon

BEIJING—Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday praised the nation's solid progress in advancing Chinese modernization over the past year, despite facing complex and challenging situations. Speaking at a high-level reception to usher in the Year of the Dragon, Xi emphasized the country's resilience and determination.

\"In the Year of the Dragon, we demonstrated vitality and a can-do spirit. We endured storms and saw the rainbow,\" said Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

The reception, held by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, was attended by over 2,000 people. Xi extended Spring Festival greetings to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese.

Xi highlighted how the nation responded with composure to the complex and challenging situations of the past 12 months. \"We implemented a range of comprehensive measures, overcame difficulties, and forged ahead with determination,\" he said.

Over the past year, China effectively implemented existing policies and proactively introduced a package of incremental policies, which helped promote the recovery of the economy, according to Xi. He noted that the country achieved remarkable progress in technological and industrial innovation, with new quality productive forces advancing steadily.

Furthermore, Xi pointed out that China's employment and consumer prices remained stable, underscoring the nation's economic resilience. \"Faced with challenges, we stood firm and pressed forward, showcasing the strength and vitality of the Chinese nation,\" he remarked.

As the Year of the Snake begins on January 29, Xi called on the nation to continue embracing the spirit of perseverance and innovation to achieve greater heights in the journey toward modernization.
