In the card, President Xi reminisced about his visit to the beautiful state of Iowa 40 years ago, noting that the warm reception he received remains fresh in his memory. He highlighted that China and the United States share extensive common interests and have broad space for cooperation, which can lead to mutual success and common prosperity benefiting both countries and the world at large.
President Xi expressed hope that the two peoples will continue to visit each other and engage in more exchanges. He encouraged jointly writing new stories of friendship and making new contributions to the development of China-U.S. relations.
Earlier, 58 friends from Iowa, including Luca Berrone, Gary Dvorchak, Sarah Lande, former U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad and his wife, former President of the World Food Prize Foundation Kenneth Quinn, and representatives of teachers, students, and parents from Iowa who participated in the \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative, jointly sent a Chinese New Year card to President Xi.
In their card, they recalled Xi's first visit to Iowa in 1985 and extended New Year greetings to him in the Year of the Snake. The representatives of teachers, students, and parents thanked President Xi for proposing the \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative, shared their experiences of visiting China, and expressed their expectations to visit China again.
