Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday visited the Northern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) ahead of the upcoming Spring Festival.
President Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), extended festive greetings on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the CMC to service personnel of the PLA, the People's Armed Police Force, civilian personnel in the military, and members of the militia and reserve forces.
The Spring Festival, China's Lunar New Year, falls on January 29 this year. During his visit on Friday morning, President Xi met with officers and soldiers of the PLA Northern Theater Command. He later addressed representatives of troops across the military via video link.
Officers and soldiers briefed President Xi on their combat readiness duties and mission execution status. Acknowledging their efforts, President Xi commended their dedication and hard work.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing combat readiness to effectively respond to any emergencies. President Xi urged the troops to safeguard national security and maintain social stability during the holiday season.
