Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), inspected the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Northern Theater Command on Friday ahead of the Spring Festival.
During his visit, President Xi extended festive greetings on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the CMC to the service personnel of the PLA and the People's Armed Police Force, civilian personnel in the military, and members of the militia and reserve forces.
The Spring Festival, marking the Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on January 29 this year.
On Friday morning, President Xi met with officers and soldiers of the PLA Northern Theater Command. He also spoke with representatives of troops across the military via video link. Officers and soldiers briefed him on their combat readiness duties and mission execution status, to which Xi expressed full acknowledgment and appreciation.
President Xi emphasized the importance of bolstering the enforcement of combat readiness duties to effectively respond to any emergencies. He urged the troops to safeguard national security and social stability during the holiday season.
