A Bond of Friendship Transcending Generations
Growing up beside the ancient temple of Mazu in Beigang on the island of Taiwan, Tsai Fu-hsiung was immersed in the rich traditions and legends of the sea goddess from a young age. The aroma of incense and the sound of temple bells were constants in his childhood, instilling in him a deep reverence for Mazu, the protector of sailors and fishermen.
Upon learning that Mazu's origins trace back to Meizhou Island in Fujian Province, across the Taiwan Strait, Tsai felt a profound connection drawing him towards her ancestral temple. Driven by faith and curiosity, he embarked on a journey in 1981 to the Chinese mainland, seeking to explore the roots of his spiritual heritage.
On Meizhou Island, Tsai encountered a fellow devotee who shared his unwavering belief in Mazu. Despite the distance and differences, they found unity in their shared devotion. This chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong friendship, bridging cultures and spanning over four decades.
The two families have maintained close contact ever since, their bond symbolizing the enduring connections that transcend geographical boundaries. Their story embodies the harmonious ties between people across the Taiwan Strait, rooted in shared traditions and mutual respect.
Join us on February 3 for \"The Journey of the Goddess,\" a captivating exploration of this remarkable friendship and the enduring power of cultural heritage to unite communities.
