China’s First Type 054B Frigate Luohe Commissioned into PLA Navy

In a significant boost to its naval capabilities, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has commissioned China's first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, at a ceremony held on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province.

Designated with hull number \"545,\" the Luohe represents a new generation of frigates independently developed and constructed by China. With a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes, the vessel features advanced stealth technology, sophisticated combat command systems, and integrated firepower enhancements that markedly improve its overall performance.

The Luohe is equipped to undertake comprehensive combat operations and a variety of military missions, positioning it as a pivotal asset in strengthening the combat effectiveness of naval task forces. Its commissioning reflects China's ongoing efforts to modernize its naval forces and protect national security interests.

The launch of the Type 054B frigate was confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense during a press conference in August 2023. Spokesperson Wu Qian stated that the development of key combat vessels like the Luohe is a normal arrangement aligned with the PLA Navy's development plans and national security requirements.

\"This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,\" Wu said, emphasizing China's commitment to peaceful development and its defensive national defense policy.
