China Commissions First Type 054B Frigate Luohe into PLA Navy

China has officially commissioned its first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, into the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy during a ceremony on Wednesday at a military port in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province.

Designated with hull number \"545,\" the Luohe represents a new generation of frigates independently developed and constructed by China. With a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes, the vessel features significant advancements in stealth technology, combat command systems, and integrated firepower.

The Type 054B frigate is poised to enhance the overall performance of the PLA Navy's fleet. Its robust capabilities in comprehensive combat operations and diverse military missions will play a vital role in bolstering the combat effectiveness of naval task forces.

The launch of the Type 054B frigate was first confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense in August 2023. Wu Qian, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the development of key combat vessels like the Luohe is a normal arrangement to meet national security requirements and aligns with the PLA Navy's overall development objectives.

This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability. Wu added that China remains committed to the path of peaceful development and adheres to a defensive national defense policy.

The commissioning of the Luohe marks a significant milestone in China's naval modernization efforts, reflecting the nation's growing capabilities in maritime defense and technological innovation.
