China Commissions First Type 054B Frigate Luohe, Enhancing Naval Strength
In a significant stride toward modernizing its naval forces, the Chinese mainland has commissioned its first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, into the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy. The ceremony took place on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province, marking a milestone in China's maritime defense capabilities.
The Luohe, designated with hull number \"545,\" boasts a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. As a new-generation frigate independently developed and constructed by China, it features cutting-edge advancements in stealth technology, combat command systems, and integrated firepower. These enhancements not only improve its survivability but also significantly elevate its overall performance in various maritime operations.
With robust capabilities for comprehensive combat and diverse military missions, the Luohe is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing the combat effectiveness of the PLA Navy's task forces. Its induction is expected to strengthen the navy's operational readiness and adaptability in safeguarding national interests.
The launch of the Type 054B frigate was first confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense during a press conference in August 2023. Wu Qian, spokesperson for the ministry, highlighted that the development of key combat vessels like the Luohe is a normal arrangement aligning with the country's national security requirements and overall naval development objectives.
\"This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,\" Wu stated, emphasizing China's commitment to peaceful development and a defensive national defense policy.
