China Commissions First Type 054B Frigate Luohe, Enhancing Naval Forces

China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has commissioned its first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, during a ceremony on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province in east China.

Designated with hull number \"545,\" the Luohe marks a significant advancement in China's naval capabilities. With a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes, this new-generation frigate has been independently developed and constructed by China. It boasts cutting-edge stealth technology, advanced combat command systems, and integrated firepower capabilities, which collectively enhance its overall performance on the high seas.

The Luohe is equipped for comprehensive combat operations and a variety of military missions. Its deployment is expected to play a vital role in strengthening the combat effectiveness of naval task forces, contributing significantly to China's maritime security and operational readiness.

The launch of the Type 054B frigate was officially confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense during a press conference in August 2023. Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian highlighted that the development of key combat vessels by the PLA Navy is a normal arrangement aligned with national security requirements and overall naval development objectives.

\"This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,\" Wu said, emphasizing China's commitment to peaceful development and a defensive national defense policy.

The commissioning of the Luohe underscores China's ongoing efforts to modernize its naval forces and enhance its capabilities in response to evolving security challenges in the region. As China continues to develop its maritime presence, the Type 054B frigate represents a significant step in bolstering its naval fleet.
