China Commissions First Type 054B Frigate Luohe, Enhancing Naval Capabilities

China has commissioned its first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, into the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy at a ceremony held on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province. The new-generation frigate, designated hull number \"545,\" represents a significant advancement in China's naval capabilities.

Independently developed and constructed by China, the Luohe has a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. It features state-of-the-art stealth technology, advanced combat command systems, and integrated firepower, all contributing to its enhanced overall performance. The frigate's robust capabilities position it as a crucial asset in comprehensive combat operations and diverse military missions.

The launch of the Type 054B frigate was initially confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense during a press conference in August 2023. Wu Qian, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the development of key combat vessels like the Luohe is a strategic move aligned with the PLA Navy's overall development objectives and national security requirements.

\"This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,\" Wu said, emphasizing China's commitment to peaceful development and a defensive national defense policy.

The commissioning of the Luohe marks a milestone in the modernization of the PLA Navy, reflecting China's ongoing efforts to enhance its maritime defense and operational capabilities.
