China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has officially commissioned its first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, during a ceremony on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province. The new frigate, designated with hull number \"545\", represents a significant milestone in China's naval modernization efforts.
The Type 054B frigate, independently developed and constructed by China, boasts a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. This new-generation warship incorporates advanced stealth technology, enhanced combat command systems, and integrated firepower capabilities, substantially boosting its overall performance and operational efficiency.
Equipped with strong capabilities for comprehensive combat operations and a wide range of military missions, the Luohe is set to play a vital role in enhancing the combat effectiveness of naval task forces. Its introduction into the fleet underscores China's commitment to strengthening its maritime defenses and safeguarding its national interests.
The commissioning of the Luohe was initially confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense during a press conference in August 2023. Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian stated that the development of key combat vessels by the PLA Navy is a normal arrangement aligned with national security requirements and the overall objectives of naval development.
'This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,' Wu emphasized, adding that China remains committed to a path of peaceful development and adheres to a defensive national defense policy.
