China Commissions First Type 054B Frigate Luohe, Advancing Naval Capabilities

China's naval capabilities have taken a significant leap forward with the commissioning of the first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, into the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy. The ceremony took place on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province.

Designated with hull number \"545,\" the Luohe boasts a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. This new-generation frigate is independently developed and constructed by China, featuring advancements in stealth technology, combat command systems, and integrated firepower. These enhancements markedly improve the vessel's overall performance.

Equipped with strong capabilities for comprehensive combat operations and a range of military missions, the Luohe is poised to play a vital role in enhancing the combat effectiveness of naval task forces. Its introduction signifies a strategic advancement in the PLA Navy's operational readiness and maritime defense.

The launch of the Type 054B frigate was confirmed in August 2023 by the Ministry of National Defense. Spokesperson Wu Qian stated that the development of key combat vessels is a normal arrangement to meet national security requirements and aligns with the navy's overall development objectives.

\"This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,\" Wu said, emphasizing China's commitment to peaceful development and a defensive national defense policy.
