China Commissions First Type 054B Frigate Luohe, Advancing Naval Capabilities

China's naval forces have reached a new milestone with the commissioning of the first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, into the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy. The ceremony took place on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province.

Designated with hull number \"545,\" the Luohe boasts a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. This new-generation frigate, independently developed and constructed by China, features significant advancements in stealth technology, combat command systems, and firepower integration. These enhancements markedly improve the vessel's overall performance and operational capabilities.

The Luohe is equipped for comprehensive combat operations and a range of diverse military missions. Its induction is expected to play a vital role in enhancing the combat effectiveness of naval task forces, contributing to the modernization and strength of China's naval forces.

The development of the Type 054B frigate was publicly acknowledged by the Ministry of National Defense in August 2023. Wu Qian, spokesperson for the ministry, noted that the PLA Navy's development of key combat vessels is a normal arrangement aimed at meeting national security requirements and aligning with overall naval development objectives.

\"This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,\" Wu said, emphasizing China's commitment to peaceful development and a defensive national defense policy.
