In a significant advancement for its naval capabilities, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has commissioned China's first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe. The commissioning ceremony took place on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province.

Designated with hull number \"545,\" the Luohe boasts a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. This new-generation frigate is independently developed and constructed by China, featuring state-of-the-art stealth technology, advanced combat command systems, and integrated firepower capabilities. These enhancements markedly elevate the vessel's overall performance and operational efficiency.

The Luohe is equipped to undertake comprehensive combat operations and a variety of military missions. Its induction is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening the combat effectiveness of the PLA Navy's task forces, contributing to the modernization and strategic readiness of China's naval forces.

The launch of the Type 054B frigate was previously confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense during a press conference in August 2023. At the time, spokesperson Wu Qian emphasized that the development of key combat vessels is a standard procedure aligned with national security requirements and overarching naval development objectives.

\"This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,\" Wu stated, highlighting China's commitment to peaceful development and a defensive national defense policy.
