An Enduring Cross-Strait Friendship Forged by Faith in Mazu

Growing up beside the temple of Mazu in Beigang on the island of Taiwan, Tsai Fu-hsiung developed a deep devotion to the Chinese goddess of the sea. When he learned that Mazu originated from Meizhou Island in Fujian Province, across the Taiwan Strait, he felt a powerful urge to visit her ancestral temple. In 1981, Tsai embarked on his journey.

Upon arriving on Meizhou Island, Tsai met a fellow devotee who shared his profound belief in Mazu. This chance encounter blossomed into a friendship that has transcended generations, with both families maintaining close contact for over 40 years.

This story is a testament to the enduring cultural ties and shared heritage across the Taiwan Strait, illustrating how faith can bridge distances and foster lasting relationships.
