Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Monday convened a symposium in Beijing to gather insights and suggestions on the draft government work report, engaging with experts, entrepreneurs, and representatives from various sectors to shape China’s future policies.
As a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Li listened attentively to contributions from leaders in education, science, culture, health, and sports, underscoring the government’s commitment to inclusive and informed decision-making.
Participants at the symposium acknowledged the significant progress China achieved in various sectors over the past year, noting that these accomplishments were hard-won amidst global challenges. They offered constructive suggestions to address current developmental obstacles and to ensure the effectiveness of government work in 2025.
Li emphasized that despite the achievements, China still faces numerous difficulties, particularly with increasing uncertainty and instability in the external environment. He highlighted the importance of accurately understanding the present situations and enhancing the ability to turn crises into opportunities.
“China possesses comprehensive strengths in institutions, market, industry, and talent,” Li said, adding that the overall trend of long-term economic improvement remains unchanged and steadfast.
He called for the adoption of a more proactive fiscal policy and a moderately loose monetary policy. Monitoring domestic and international developments closely and adjusting policy measures timely are crucial, he noted, to fine-tune the country’s policy toolbox.
Li also stressed the need for deepening reforms, expanding opening-up, promoting the transition from old to new growth drivers through scientific and technological innovation, and intensifying efforts to secure and improve people’s livelihoods.
He expressed his expectations that those in attendance would diligently work within their respective fields, actively report on social conditions and public opinion, and develop more policy recommendations.
The draft work report has been distributed to various government departments for further suggestions, reflecting the government’s dedication to collaborative progress and responsive governance.
