Chinese Culture Inspires 2025 Spring Festival Gala Mascot ‘Si Shengsheng’

Around the world, Chinese communities are preparing to usher in the Year of the Snake on January 29, 2025. Embracing this significant occasion, China Media Group (CMG) has unveiled the official mascot for the upcoming Spring Festival Gala—a figure named Si Shengsheng. The gala, an annual variety show broadcast on Lunar New Year's Eve for over four decades, carries the theme \"Year of the Snake, Keep Your Spirits Awake\" this year.

Si Shengsheng, a vibrant and lively snake character, embodies the wisdom, agility, and renewal that the snake symbolizes in Chinese culture. The mascot's name, \"Si Shengsheng,\" plays on the Chinese word for snake, \"she,\" and conveys a message of vitality and continuous growth.

The unveiling of Si Shengsheng has been met with enthusiasm both within China and among the global Chinese diaspora. \"We wanted a mascot that resonates with people of all ages and backgrounds,\" said a representative from CMG. \"Si Shengsheng represents not just the spirit of the Year of the Snake but also the unity and cultural heritage that the Spring Festival brings.\"

The Spring Festival Gala is known for its grand performances, showcasing traditional and contemporary arts, music, dance, and comedy sketches. Introducing a mascot adds a new dimension to the gala, aiming to engage younger audiences and promote Chinese culture on an international stage.

As preparations for the Lunar New Year festivities ramp up, Si Shengsheng is expected to feature prominently in promotional materials, merchandise, and interactive activities leading up to the gala. The mascot will also appear in various segments during the live broadcast, connecting audiences worldwide to the celebration.

\"The Year of the Snake is a time for reflection, wisdom, and renewal,\" added the CMG representative. \"Through Si Shengsheng, we hope to inspire these values in everyone celebrating the Spring Festival, no matter where they are in the world.\"
