Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting to Review Reports, Focuses on Yellow River Development

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The gathering focused on reviewing reports and opinions critical to China's ongoing development and ecological strategies.

During the meeting, the Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing the work reports from the leading Party members' groups of major state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting also examined opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, a region crucial to China's environmental sustainability and economic growth.

The leadership fully recognized the achievements of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. The meeting emphasized the importance of these groups prioritizing effective action, uniting efforts to advance reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

Highlighting the significance of the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts should be made to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, bolster soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

The meeting also stressed the need to ensure the safety of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It called for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, it emphasized improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
