Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing vital reports and setting strategic directions for the nation's development.
The Political Bureau examined a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee presented its work report.
Applauding the efforts made over the past year, the meeting fully recognized the accomplishments of these leading Party members' groups and approved their work plans for 2025. It was emphasized that, in 2025, these groups must prioritize action, unite strength to drive reforms, and contribute anew to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
The meeting also underscored the importance of enhancing political capability, promoting strict self-governance, and ensuring the Secretariat effectively accomplishes all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Notably, the meeting highlighted the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, one of China's crucial ecological corridors. The call was made to fully enforce the Yellow River Protection Law and to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological management in the lower reaches.
Efforts were urged to ensure the safety of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure, and to align the high-quality development of the Yellow River with broader strategies for the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. The meeting also advocated for the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River and the promotion of cultural and tourism integration.
