Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing work reports and setting priorities for advancing China's high-quality development and ecological protection initiatives.
The Political Bureau reviewed reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting fully recognized the achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of taking concrete actions, strengthening reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the modernization of China.
In discussing the Secretariat's role, the meeting called for boosting political capability, enhancing strict self-governance, and effectively accomplishing all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant focus of the meeting was on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The CPC leadership underscored the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard the river's ecological health.
The meeting outlined specific measures, including enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Efforts will also be made to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs.
The leadership stressed the need to align the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader national strategies like the large-scale development of western China and the rise of the central region. Additionally, there will be initiatives to protect cultural heritage holistically and promote the integration of culture and tourism.
