Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions to drive high-quality development and ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin.
During the meeting, the Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing work reports from leading Party members’ groups across key state institutions. These include the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
Recognizing Achievements and Planning for 2025
The meeting acknowledged the significant work accomplished by these leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. The groups were urged to prioritize action, unify efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the modernization of China.
The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was called upon to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen self-governance, and effectively execute all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
Emphasizing Yellow River Basin Development
The meeting highlighted the critical importance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. It called for the comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and outlined strategies for different regions of the river.
Efforts should focus on enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. The safety of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure must be ensured.
The meeting also emphasized aligning the development of the Yellow River Basin with broader national strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. There is a call to improve the systematic protection of cultural heritage and promote the integration of culture and tourism development.
