Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting to Boost High-Quality Development and Yellow River Protection

In a significant move to further China's development agenda, President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing critical reports and setting the course for high-quality development and ecological protection, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from key state institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The meeting fully recognized their achievements over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025.

Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the meeting noted that in 2025, these leading Party members' groups must prioritize getting things done and pool their strengths to push forward reforms. They are expected to make new contributions to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also urged to boost political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The significance of the Yellow River, often referred to as the \"Mother River\" of China, was underscored, with calls for promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.

The meeting outlined specific measures to enhance the water source conservation capacity in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. Efforts were urged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.

Moreover, the meeting emphasized strengthening the synergy of the Yellow River's high-quality development with the strategies of large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. There was a call to improve holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage along the river and promote the integration of culture and tourism development.

This meeting reflects China's ongoing commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development, aligning with the nation's broader goals of modernization and prosperity.
