In a significant move to enhance ecological protection and development in the Yellow River Basin, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a high-level meeting on Monday. The meeting of the CPC Political Bureau focused on reviewing crucial reports and setting strategic priorities for the coming year.
The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting acknowledged the achievements of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of prioritizing action, strengthening reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen self-governance, and effectively carry out all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant focus of the meeting was on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The meeting called for the comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard the region's ecological security.
According to the meeting, efforts should be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological management in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. The safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure must be ensured.
The meeting also highlighted the need to align the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin with the strategies for large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It called for improved protection of cultural heritage and the promotion of integrated cultural and tourism development in the area.
