In a significant move towards advancing China's high-quality development and ecological conservation, President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.
The meeting undertook a comprehensive review of reports from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Discussions were held on the work reports of the leading Party members' groups of five key state institutions: the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also examined.
Ahead of ambitious plans set for 2025, the meeting recognized the significant contributions of these leading Party members' groups over the past year. It approved their work plans for the upcoming year, emphasizing the need to prioritize efficiency, drive reforms, and contribute to China's modernization efforts.
Highlighting the importance of self-governance and political capability, the meeting called on the Secretariat to diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
One of the focal points of the meeting was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often referred to as the \"Mother River\" of China, holds immense historical and cultural significance. The meeting underscored the need for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.
Strategic steps were outlined to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the river. The meeting also stressed the importance of safeguarding the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.
Efforts to synchronize the Yellow River's development with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region, were encouraged. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the need to protect cultural heritage holistically and promote the integration of culture and tourism to stimulate economic growth and preserve the rich history of the Yellow River Basin.
