Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting, Stresses Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development

President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports from key government bodies and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

During the session, the Political Bureau examined reports submitted by the leading Party members' groups from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

The meeting acknowledged the significant achievements of these bodies over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of tangible results, the meeting called on these leading Party members' groups to prioritize effective action, foster reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization in 2025.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently fulfill all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A key highlight of the meeting was the focus on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Recognizing its significance, the meeting called for comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Strategies were discussed to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, improve soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the river.

The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of major dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It highlighted the need to align the Yellow River's high-quality development with the large-scale development strategies of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, efforts to preserve cultural heritage and promote the integration of culture and tourism were encouraged.
