President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on advancing ecological protection and promoting high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

During the meeting, reports from the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) were reviewed. The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

The CPC leadership fully recognized the achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the meeting called on these leading Party members’ groups to prioritize tasks, unite efforts to drive reforms, and contribute to China’s high-quality development and modernization.

The meeting highlighted the critical role of the Yellow River Basin in China’s ecological landscape. It stressed the need for comprehensive ecological protection and the enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts will focus on enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, improving soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Furthermore, the meeting underscored the importance of safeguarding vital infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. It called for strengthening synergy between the Yellow River’s development and national strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. The integration of cultural heritage protection with tourism development was also emphasized.

The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to enhance political capability, enforce strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

This meeting reflects China’s commitment to ecological preservation and sustainable development, particularly in regions crucial to the nation’s environmental health and economic growth. By focusing on the Yellow River Basin, China aims to balance ecological protection with modernization efforts, ensuring a harmonious relationship between nature and development.
