Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting on Yellow River Protection and High-Quality Development

In a significant move towards China's sustainable future, President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing comprehensive reports from key state institutions and emphasized the importance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau examined work reports from leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The session also reviewed the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

Recognizing the achievements of these groups over the past year, the meeting approved their ambitious work plans for 2025. The focus for the coming year is clear: prioritize action, unite efforts to advance reforms, and contribute significantly to high-quality development and the modernization of China.

President Xi underscored the need for the Secretariat to enhance its political capability and strengthen self-governance to effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

A major highlight of the meeting was the discussion on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often referred to as the \"Mother River\" of China, holds profound historical and cultural significance. The meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this vital waterway.

Efforts will be directed towards enhancing water source conservation in the river's upper reaches, boosting soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. This holistic approach aims to rejuvenate the river's ecosystems and ensure long-term sustainability.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of infrastructure safety, particularly of dams and reservoirs, and the integration of the Yellow River's development with broader regional strategies such as the large-scale development of western China and the rise of the central region.

Moreover, there is a concerted push to protect cultural heritage along the Yellow River and promote the fusion of culture and tourism. This initiative seeks to harness the river's rich history to boost tourism and cultural exchange, benefiting local communities and preserving traditions.

This meeting reflects China's continuing commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development, reinforcing the nation's goals toward high-quality growth and environmental stewardship.
