President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing key reports and discussing strategies to enhance ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). It also reviewed the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The Political Bureau acknowledged the significant contributions made by these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. The meeting emphasized the importance of prioritizing action, uniting efforts to push forward reforms, and making new contributions to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and successfully accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting highlighted the strategic significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Emphasizing the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law, attendees called for systematic enhancement of water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Efforts were urged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The meeting also stressed the need to synergize the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Improving holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development were also highlighted.
The meeting underscored the CPC's commitment to fostering sustainable development and ecological preservation, reinforcing the importance of the Yellow River Basin in China's modernization efforts.
