Beijing, October 10 — President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions to advance high-quality development and ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin.
The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the meeting considered opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The meeting praised the achievements of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action in 2025, the leadership called for prioritizing key tasks, pushing forward reforms, and making new contributions to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Highlighting the Yellow River Basin's ecological significance, the meeting called for full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts will focus on systematically enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
The leadership emphasized ensuring the safety of vital dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It also underscored the need to synergize the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies for large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. The meeting called for improving holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
