Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, convened a significant leadership meeting on Monday, focusing on advancing high-quality development and ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin.
The meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee reviewed comprehensive reports from key state institutions and deliberated on strategies to further China's modernization efforts.
During the session, the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau presented a report after discussions on the work of leading Party members' groups from several pivotal bodies, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting acknowledged and commended the achievements of these groups over the past year, approving their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of actionable progress, the leadership called on these groups to prioritize effective implementation, collaborate to drive reforms, and contribute to China's high-quality development and the broader goal of Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant focus of the meeting was on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, a crucial region for China's environmental sustainability and economic growth. The leadership highlighted the need to fully enforce the Yellow River Protection Law and implement systematic measures across different segments of the river.
Strategies discussed included enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. The meeting also underscored the importance of ensuring the safety of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.
In aligning regional development strategies, efforts will be made to synchronize the Yellow River's high-quality development with the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. The leadership emphasized improving holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage within the basin and promoting the integration of culture and tourism to foster sustainable economic growth.
