In a gesture of unity ahead of the Spring Festival, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, extended festive greetings on Monday to members of non-CPC political parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), personages without party affiliation, and other members of the united front.
Xi, also Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, conveyed his greetings during an annual gathering at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on January 29 this year.
During the event, Xi emphasized China's commitment to implementing more proactive and impactful macroeconomic policies. He highlighted the need to focus on high-quality development and to promote greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology to sustain sound social and economic progress in 2025.
He called on non-CPC political parties, the ACFIC, and personages without party affiliation to concentrate on central tasks, serve the country's overall interests, and leverage their unique strengths. Xi urged them to rally broader support, build consensus, and pool wisdom and strength to achieve common goals.
Xi underscored the importance of attaining the targets set in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) by 2025 and laying a solid foundation for the next five years. He expressed hope that non-CPC personages would mobilize all positive forces to advance development and actively contribute to comprehensively deepening reform, promoting high-quality development, and formulating proposals for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).
Addressing environmental concerns, Xi stressed the need to tackle critical and challenging problems in supervising the protection of the Yangtze River ecosystem. He highlighted the vital role of environmental sustainability in China's development agenda.
He also called upon the ACFIC to guide the private sector in maintaining enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and bolstering confidence in development. Xi emphasized the importance of establishing and improving modern corporate systems with distinctive Chinese features.
The annual gathering reflects the CPC's commitment to fostering unity and collaboration with non-CPC groups, aiming to harness collective efforts toward national development goals.
