Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting addressed critical issues pertaining to China's development and environmental conservation.
During the session, the Political Bureau reviewed reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). It also examined the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting fully recognized the efforts and achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the priorities for the upcoming year, the meeting called on these leading Party members' groups to focus on concrete actions, drive forward reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was also urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often referred to as the \"Mother River\" of China, holds great ecological and cultural significance.
The meeting highlighted the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard the river's health and sustainability. It called for systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Furthermore, the meeting emphasized the need to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. It also advocated for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and the broader strategies of large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
In addition, the meeting stressed improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage associated with the Yellow River and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development. This approach aims to preserve the rich history and traditions of the region while fostering sustainable economic growth.
