Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The gathering focused on reviewing crucial reports and advancing high-quality development and ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin.

During the meeting, reports from the leading Party members' groups of key state institutions were reviewed, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also discussed.

The meeting acknowledged the achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of progress, the meeting noted that in 2025, these leading Party members' groups must prioritize accomplishing tasks, unite to drive reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen self-governance, and effectively fulfill all responsibilities assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

A key focus of the meeting was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The attendees called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law, aiming to safeguard this critical region known as the \"Mother River\" of China.

Efforts were discussed to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. Ensuring the safety of dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was also highlighted.

The meeting emphasized aligning the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader national strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, it underscored the importance of protecting cultural heritage holistically and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
