Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.

The meeting focused on reviewing reports from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups of several key state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

An important agenda item was the comprehensive promotion of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

Recognizing the achievements of the past year, the meeting approved the 2025 work plans of the leading Party members' groups of the NPC Standing Committee, the State Council, the CPPCC National Committee, the SPC, and the SPP. It emphasized the necessity for these groups to prioritize action, unify efforts to drive reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capabilities, reinforce strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

The significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin was highlighted. The meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.

Efforts should be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.

The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It advocated for strengthening the synergy between the high-quality development of the Yellow River and the strategies for large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

Additionally, the meeting called for improved holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and the promotion of integrated culture and tourism development.
