In an important move towards advancing China’s development priorities, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing crucial reports from leading Party members’ groups and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau examined reports from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and heard work reports from the leading Party members’ groups of key state institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

The meeting fully recognized the achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the meeting called on the leading Party members’ groups of the five state institutions to prioritize effective implementation, unite efforts to drive reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the advancement of Chinese modernization in 2025.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capacity, strengthen strict self-governance, and accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The meeting highlighted the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law and outlined comprehensive strategies to safeguard the river’s ecosystem.

Efforts are to be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, bolster soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. The meeting also stressed the need to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs.

Moreover, the meeting called for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River’s high-quality development and broader regional strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Enhancing the protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development were also highlighted as key initiatives.

This meeting signifies the CPC’s commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development, reinforcing the importance of the Yellow River Basin in China’s overall modernization efforts.
