Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday, focusing on key reports and strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development.

The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after discussions on the work reports of the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The Political Bureau recognized the accomplishments of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. The meeting emphasized the importance of effective implementation and reform to advance high-quality development and the modernization of China.

"In 2025, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions must prioritize getting things done, pool strength to push forward reforms, and make new contributions to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization," noted the meeting.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting highlighted the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, calling for the promotion of the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts should be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

The meeting also called for ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure, strengthening the synergy of the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies for large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, there was an emphasis on improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
