Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.
The meeting focused on reviewing reports from the leading Party members’ groups of key state institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.
A significant aspect of the meeting was the review of opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Emphasizing the strategic importance of the Yellow River, often referred to as the “Mother River” of China, the meeting called for enhanced efforts to fully enforce the Yellow River Protection Law.
The meeting fully recognized the achievements of the leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It underscored the necessity for these groups to prioritize concrete actions, strengthen reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.
Addressing the ecological concerns of the Yellow River Basin, the meeting highlighted the need to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was also stressed.
The synergy between the Yellow River’s high-quality development and the broader strategies of large-scale development in the western region and the rise of the central region was another focal point. The meeting advocated for improved holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and the promotion of integration between culture and tourism development.
The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to boost political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
