Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting, Emphasizes Yellow River Protection

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions from key state institutions and emphasized the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also examined.

The meeting acknowledged the achievements of these leading Party groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It was noted that in 2025, these groups must prioritize action, consolidate efforts to drive reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The Secretariat was called upon to enhance political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Significantly, the meeting highlighted the importance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The attendees called for the comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this crucial region.

The meeting outlined specific measures to enhance the conservation capacity in the upper reaches, bolster soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological management in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. Efforts were also urged to ensure the safety of key infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs.

The synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and broader regional strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region, was emphasized. The meeting also advocated for the holistic protection of cultural heritage and the integration of culture and tourism development in the region.
