In a significant move to steer China's future development, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing crucial reports and setting strategic priorities for 2025, emphasizing high-quality development and ecological conservation.

The Political Bureau reviewed a comprehensive report from its Standing Committee, following discussions on the work reports presented by the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also scrutinized.

The meeting expressed full recognition of the efforts made by these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Acknowledging the progress, the meeting underscored the importance of prioritizing action, uniting efforts to push forward reforms, and making new contributions to advancing high-quality development and realizing Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capacity, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Focus on the Yellow River Basin

A significant highlight of the meeting was the review of opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Emphasizing the critical role of the Yellow River in China's ecological and economic landscape, the meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.

Key directives included systematically enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches of the river, reinforcing soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. The meeting also stressed the necessity of ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.

Integrating Development Strategies

The meeting highlighted the importance of aligning the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin with broader national strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It called for improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development to boost regional economies and preserve historical legacies.
